The law began to shift employers’ expectations that it was the worker’s responsibility to adapt in order to fit a specific mold. “It has forced us all, including employers, to think about how environments are disabling,” said David Pettinicchio, a University of Toronto researcher who wrote a book about the act.

    David Pettinicchio

    I am a sociologist at the University of Toronto. I specialize in political sociology, the study of inequalities and social policy. A key area of interest is how politics and policies shape the lives of everyday people and in turn, how citizens get involved in shaping those policies - for example, through advocacy and social movement participation. 
    I have also written about these and other related issues in The Hill, USA Today, Huffington Post and the Washington Post.
